IF THE TERRIBLE TWO'S DON"T KILL ME..............

Posted on: March 3, 2008 1:13 pm

HELP.................My house, my mind , and my life have been taken over by the terrible 2's.  Where did my sweet angelic little girl go?  Over the last several days she has been replaced by a she devil that has the most piercing scream you have ever heard.  She is willful and stubborn.  She makes taking her anywhere absolute torture.  She won't sit on the potty and throws a fit at absolutely nothing.  In short she is 2 and every bit of it.

If both of us make it through this stage it will be a miracle.

Advice, earplugs, Xanax

IF THE TERRIBLE TWO'S DON'T KILL ME..............

I feel your pain.  My daughter is also 2 1/2.  Her favorite words are "No!"  "Why?!" Her favorite phrases are, "You go away Daddy!", I wan't my Mommy!", and "I don't want to!"

IF THE TERRIBLE TWO'S DON'T KILL ME..............

......then the Threes will!!!  Tikki is right, it only gets worse. The twos are when the baby realizes that crying leads to action. Cause and effect. Threes are when she realizes how to use that cause and effect to her benefit... i.e. waiting until the worst possible moment to throw a fit to ensure a quick positive response from you.

It's not until 4 1/2 that they settle down and start to balance how much they love you with what they want at that moment.  Good luck...

And a hint for potty:  put it in front of the tv, and don't let her up until she 'goes.' Then give her a treat. She'll be begging for potty in no time. Also, put her in regular panties NOW.  Kids don't care if a diaper gets wet because they stay 'dry'. Make her feel some wet undies for a while, and I bet she quits going in her pants. We put my son in regular undies on friday. By sunday night, he was potty trained. There were still 'accidents' but not because he wasn't trying, it just took too long to find a potty.

Let me know how it goes, and good luck.

IF THE TERRIBLE TWO'S DON'T KILL ME..............

Yes, I too thought the 2's were tough.  Weeks of whining and a general abuse of her parents by my daughter in between weeks of joy and cuteness beyond belief.  Then we had another child and it has become nearly unbearable.

My daughter just turned 3 and we did all that we could to prepare her for being a big sister, but it hasn't helped apparently.  I don't understand how a person can scream for literally an hour straight without losing her voice or passing out.  Bedtime has become an absolute disaster.  We have tried rewards, screaming back, no naps, laying in her bed, leaving the light on, and several other strategies to an utter failure.  We are at our wits end and just hope that this phase is short lived.

Good luck LP's and all other parents of younguns.  Remember this too shall pass.  Good lord willing.

IF THE TERRIBLE TWO'S DON'T KILL ME..............

dook recommends a 1/5 of jack...not for Lauren for you and LD.

small fry was not that bad at two, three was worse...then four, and oh my he speaks his mind and mocks me...my mom says he is packed full of firecracker punch like me...my payment for what i did to her...and he will be five..here soon, but then you have a small moment of clarity, where they come up to you and say i love you mama and give you a snotty slobbery kiss, and that is why we have kids.
